This video demonstrates how the mirrored barn doors on the Dynaphos LH-213 daylight balanced fuorescent bank lighting fixture are used as a douser to control the light output of the fixture. This video episode for Bright Ideas is a test episode or sort of pilot. It was done for fun and without any crew; not even a camera op, ouch. No I will not do this in my front yard on a Saturday night ever again. It is full of flaws and it is generally is low quality, but it is a hint of what is to come.
This episode is how to fix the Dynatran light stands (sold at Amvona.com) when they start slipping at the quick releases. This also applies to other light stands and background supports that are sold by many companies.

The GO-HD pocket HD camcorder from Aiptek is an interesting and convenient little camera. Unfortunately, the video files that it outputs onto SD memory cards work well on Mac computers with iMovieHD but are difficult to handle on PC's. The output files are QuickTime files compressed with h.264 compression and AAC audio. While Sony's Vegas Pro 8 will read such files, the particular ones from this unit will actually crash the application.
The files must be quickly prepared before using them in Vegas Pro 8.

As budgets have become tighter and tighter, and the technology has improved, chroma keying in video has become commonplace. It is said that chroma keying in DV is unacceptable. New specialized tools have greatly improved the chroma keys in DV, but with a little understanding of DV and the right process, you can get good results with your NLE. We are going to step through the process of producing a quality chroma key with Sony's Vegas® NLE. You may find that many of the tools used in Vegas are available in your NLE. If so, the process should be very similar.

Lighting a large chroma key drop is not very difficult with a little attention to detail and a few good softboxes or studio multi-source instruments. Unfortunately I was fresh out of the couple of thousand dollars I would need for those lighting instruments. Once again I was on my way down to the local home improvement store to find a miracle.
